Toilet paper wall art

Sometimes a craft project comes along that sounds like it is either going to be totally awesome, or totally horrible. This was one of those times that I wasn't quite sure how this was going to turn out. It all started by me telling my husband to save all of our empty toilet paper rolls. This was met with with a very questionable look but at this point in our lives, he knows that sometimes my mind is madness, so he went along with it!

Once you've collected all of your rolls (I used 8 rolls for this project), you want to flatten the toilet paper roll and cut strips about half an inch thick.

After you've made all your cuts, you'll want to plug in your trusty glue gun. You will use a lot of little spots of glue to put all of those pieces together. Take 4 pieces and make them into a T shape, gluing each piece together at the tips. It sort of looks like a little flower.

Its starting to look pretty! So at this point, just continue to glue, glue glue until you've made as many little flowers as you'd like. After you're happy with the amount you've made, you'll want to start gluing them all together.

Now after you've glued it all together, you can do one of two things. Spray paint it and be done and hang it on the wall as is, or you could put it into a frame. I chose the frame, I just felt like it would look a little more finished. Since I was putting it into a frame, I had to end up cutting a few pieces to make it fit.

I had an old frame from Ikea that I decided I would use. It was just your typical silver frame.

Like I said earlier, because of its size, I had to cut and snip a few pieces until my eyes were happy with the way it looked, then I took the whole thing and just stuck it in the frame. Mine fit pretty snug so it held it in the frame really well. If yours is a little looser, you could always hot glue a little into the insides to hold it in place. Now it was time for my favorite part. Spray paint! I painted the frame oil rubbed bronze and the toilet paper rolls I sprayed first with silver and then went back over it with little spritzes of the oil rubbed bronze to give it a speckled look.

In a way I think it looks like an iron scroll piece. Of course, we all know its just good ole TP!

It didn't come together exactly how I had pictured it in my head and it's certainly not perfect but I like it anyway!

Pinterest Inspired

Here we are, 5 days into Spring and what the heck did we wake up to?

I know, right?! It's just craziness. What in the world is wrong with Mother Nature? Gah! Oh well, it looks pretty even if I am ready for flowers, sunshine and warmth.

Anyway, I decided that I was going to try to recreate a cloche/stand that I saw on Pinterest (don't you just LOOOOOOVE Pinterest?) and of course I logged on to link the original post and its gone. Do your pins sometimes just disappear?

This is it. Beautiful isn't it? Well, maybe not so much in this picture. I apologize now for the lack of in between pictures. I only have a before and after. The materials that I used were really simple. From top to bottom, a knob from Lowes (hot glued onto the top of course), a metal trashcan from the dollar store, an old plate and a candle holder (both of which I had laying around the house). I pulled out my trusty hot glue gun and E5000. I hot glued the knob to the top and the plate to the candle holder. I added a little E5000 around the outside of the candle holder to give it a little extra support. The trashcan I had to cut, it was just a little too tall for my taste so I just cut it down to where I liked it and boom, done. Now, onto the fun part. Spray paint!!!! I adore spray paint, it's so cheap that I want to spray paint everything I see. I pulled out my trusty ole heirloom white and went to town. A few coats later, here is the final product:

I think it turned out great! You'd never know that its just a bunch of stuff that I had laying around the house and a trashcan from the dollar store. I can't wait to  figure out all the fun things I can do with it and since its just spray paint, if I get a wild hair to change the color it will only cost about 3.99 to give it a whole new look. Yeeeeeaaaah!

Here we go!

So here I am. I am finally ready to do this! I've kicked around the idea of starting a blog for as long as I can remember and now, here I am. I adore crafting. I love seeing something online and trying to recreate it. I love all things DIY. I've decided that i'm tired of just existing in our house. I want to make it our home, but i'm cheap. I don't want to spend alot any money.  My plan is to share with the world how it goes. I can't say it will all look good. I can't say that it will all work out perfectly. I can't even say that I have a plan. What I can tell you is that I will be perfectly honest with everything I do, good or bad and I will try and do it for as little money as possible.

I'll try to update as much as possible. Right now, i'm shooting for once a week. I am a mommy to the most amazing, adorable, squishy little ball of perfectness so I don't have tons of time on my hands at the moment but i'm going to give it a go anyhow.

and here we go........
